This series of photos, titled BIO-ARCH, depicts a conceptual collision and connection between the urban environment and nature, giving a virtual contrast. The term bio architecture inspired by the title of the series is essentially the design of architecture and building in an environmentally friendly way. In my project, however, we have the interaction between these two elements with two corresponding aspects of the subject. On the one hand, nature tries and overrides the urban environment and thus dominates and takes its original biological role. On the other hand, however, we also have the human influence and presence that he is trying to perfect it and control the image of the natural environment around him.
This series of 34 photos taken in neighborhoods in Marousi and Kifisia shows a more remote and distant image of Athens that is certainly different from neighborhoods and areas of the center. This was because it was easier and more accessible to develop precisely the subject and the images I wanted to make about the relationship between the natural environment and the urban landscape that you don't find easily in more densely populated areas of Athens.
As for the technical features of the photos, in all the shots I used a focal lens 18-55 mm long to get more comfort to distance the subject to me. The use of the square frame was made to have a uniformity of "close" relationship and interaction of both elements in the frame I chose.
Finally, the important editing of the images with a bright warm color palette with intense film grain via polaroid photos was done for the contrast I wanted to present in terms of the intense green color and the more beige shades of buildings displayed in my series that gives as a choice and a more nostalgic meaning to the subject with a more reproductive meaning. The chronological relationship between the negative image and its corresponding positive image shows this transition from the negative image of a modern or non-modern building taken today (in this period of time), a positive image is reproduced which, through appropriate processing and a specific date and place comment, refers to another era in the past (polaroid) or even in the future while referring to part of the present.
